BIOGRAPHY

Frederic Kirstein is an industrial Ph.D. candidate at Mercedes-Benz AG in Böblingen. He completed his BSc and MSc in Computer Science with a minor in Physics at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. During his graduate studies, Frederic was mainly active in Computer Graphics and VR and developed projects like the VR visualization of the IceCube project and the Virtual Reality Experiment (VRE) project of the JGU Mainz. He faced the challenges of Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing (NLP) in multiple Deep Learning competitions and shifted his focus entirely to NLP after graduation.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

Frederic’s position within the Research & Development part of Mercedes-Benz AG is at the early stage of ideation, focusing on future technologies and trends. As a result, his current research interests range from how the ideation process can benefit from NLP to how NLP can improve the in-car customer experience. Frederic’s primary research interest topics are:

  • Text Summarization
  • Multi-Task Learning
  • Language modeling
