SHORT BIOGRAPHY

André Greiner-Petter earned his B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Mathematics from TU Berlin in Germany, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Wuppertal in January 2022. During his Master’s studies, he served as a guest researcher at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the U.S. and undertook a research internship at Maplesoft in Canada. He was awarded three scholarships from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), which enabled him to study at the National Institute of Informatics (NII) in Japan for a significant portion of his Ph.D. studies. Additionally, he is a two-time alumnus of the Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF) (2022 & 2024), a recipient of the EXIST Grant, and serves as co-chair of the Wikimedia Community User Group Math.

RESEARCH INTERESTS

André’s primary research focuses on Mathematical Information Retrieval (MathIR) tasks. The goal is to retrieve semantic information from mathematical content and utilize this information for various applications, including performing computations & verifications, enhancing search engines, or improving plagiarism detection systems. MathIR requires advanced approaches in a large variety of different research fields, foremost information retrieval, natural language processing, and semantic analysis. André’s research interest topics are:

  • Mathematical Information Retrieval
  • Semantic Document Analysis
  • Scientometrics
  • Data Science
