We are frequently asked about opportunities for research stays and summer internships in our group in Göttingen, Germany.
So, on this page, we have compiled some resources regarding funding options. This page is specifically dedicated to students from abroad who are interested in coming to Germany for a research internship with our group.

The current funding opportunities we recommend are grouped according to the location of your home university.
It is worth noting that this is not an exhaustive list of funding opportunities, but rather these are well-established programs or programs we already have experience with.

Students from Universities in India
WISE Program by the DAAD
- The DAAD’s WISE (Working Internships in Science and Engineering) program is specifically for Indian students wishing to complete a summer research internship at a German research university.
- Funding is for up to 3 months between May–August
- Find out more about the program here.
- To qualify for this program, you must meet several strict requirements, for example:

- Your home university in India must be on this list of Indian higher education institutions for you to be eligible to apply for the DAAD WISE scholarship.
- You must have excellent academic achievements, and be in your 4th or 5th academic semester (for a Bachelor) or 7th or 8th semester in a joint Bachelor-Master program at the time of application.
- If you qualify for this DAAD program, we are happy to help you define a research project and provide the required supporting documents.
Students from Universities in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., or Ireland
RISE Program by the DAAD
- The DAAD’s RISE (Research Internships in Science and Engineering) program is dedicated to undergraduates enrolled at U.S., Canadian, U.K. or Irish universities wishing to complete a summer internship at a German research university.
- Funding is for up to 3 months. Internships must begin between: May – July.

- If you are interested in applying for this program, please get in touch with us as soon as possible, ideally in the fall if you would like to do an internship in the following summer. The deadline for the partnering German research institutions to submit their project descriptions to the portal is in October. So, if you contact us before October, we can make sure that we have submitted a research topic to the portal that is relevant to your research interests and to which you can then apply! The application deadline for students is typically in December.

Students from Universities in China
DAAD-Short-term Scholarship Program
- The DAAD’s Short-term Scholarships for master’s degree students from China can fund a research visit at a German University while you are working towards your master’s thesis.
- Funding is for up to 3 months; 850 euros/month
- Deadlines:
- May 31st for funding from October onwards
- December 15th for funding from May onward
- Application requirements:
- Enrollment in a full-time Master’s degree course at a Chinese “211” university or CAS institute.
- Completion of at least the 2nd semester of your master’s degree program.
- Proficiency in German or English to allow you to carry out your research project. Language skills must be proven by TestDaF, DSH II or IELTS (5.5), TOEFL iBT (80) or TEM (8) certificates.
